What we need to keep working in the future...

I like to read the business section daily. It brings broad information amidst a myriad of business topics. Every once in a while I'll have an "A-ha moment"  and apply big picture concepts to my place in my narrow business niche.

Here's a factoid from an article titled, " Job growth slowest in 2 1/2 years":
Economists predict the unemployment rate willl climb in coming months and approach 5% by year's end. Of course, if you're like most voice actors, you know this statistic is much, much higher for our niche.

The world of the voice-over business, once a local to regional and for some lucky ones, a national game has fast become a highly competetive, glutted, global marketplace.

So, facing an even more competetive enviornment-that means sharpening skills, networking more, retooling  demos, resumes and possibly a complete re-branding.

We must make sure our skills are as updated as possible. The article quotes Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, who once ran Kelloggs' who says,  "This is a continuous-learning economy. We all have to upgrade our skills every single day. Learning never stops."

So here it is, Saturday morning, as I completed my attendance in an online webinar about  "How to work your brand to get more work", I know that by continuing my education, I have inched myself just a little closer to my goal.
