My Portable Sound Booth

I travel a bit, and have need for a small, easily transportable microphone reflection method to record dry voice.

It works fine for producing a "dead" area for your mic from an absorbtion standpoint.

I found this nifty idea from v/o pro and author, Harlan Hogan, which goes into plenty of detail here.

I found a collapsable canvas 10" x 14" cloth-covered storage box at Target for around $10.00,  had some extra Auralex studio foam, and put it together. Here it is assembled, which takes about :60 set up time from bag to record mode. Note: You don't stick your head into the box to record. Just set up your copy stand on the table, and face the mic, which sits inside the porta-booth.

The container collapses flat, and I "nested" the foam pieces so they take up less space.

Everything fits into a small comforter zipper bag with built-in carrying handle.  Sure beats sitting in an uncomfortable self-made fort made of pillows and comforters in hotel rooms while I am on the road. SWEET!

Beautiful job, Bobbin! I like the fully compacted pics you posted. I always wondered how such a box was portable. Now I know. Thanks!

Thank you for stopping by, Jeff, and for your kind words. I have seen these pre-made portable booths selling for about $79.00 plus shipping, so I like the fact I saved myself some $$, and hopefully others can, too, while enhancing my remote recording capability.
