Embed Plus: A New Pronunciation Tool

When you're in voiceover, you occasionally need to research pronunciations. I've discussed in previous posts the merits of Howjasay.com, and the Merriam Webster sites.

I was recently contacted by Tay, Co-Founder of EmbedPlus to share a new tool that takes pronunciation dictionaries further.  With this service, users can search for a word and not only access conventional audio pronunciations as in typical web dictionaries but also time-stamped videos of real people in real situations speaking and using the word in context.

Videos allow so much more than just audio.  For example, they could also help teach a word’s pronunciation more effectively by showing the facial gestures needed to produce it.  Even more the video scenarios illustrate how the word is naturally pronounced with other words, not just in isolation.  We point to research motivating all this on the service’s homepage here: http://www.embedplus.com/dictionary/how-to-pronounce-words-and-use-them.aspx

Tay asks,

"Perhaps you could help us share it. Note that it’s a service offered on top of our video platform (EmbedPlus), and so we offer this page to easily cut and paste nicely formatted links:  " http://www.embedplus.com/dictionary/how-to-link-to-us.aspx
